Herts PGA and PGA East Region Pro-Am’s

I have had some interest in pro-Am;s, if you want to make a team up and play in some competitive events in the company of your club professionals then The Herts PGA offers a number of Pro-Am events through the ‘off-season’ and 2020 is the Centenary Year Of The Hertfordshire PGA. Ryan and I would love to take a couple of teams to each of these events.

The venues are great and priced up from £65 a man. They are made up of teams of 3 and pro. Bacon/coffee rolls to start, a round of golf, two-course meal and a prize table are all included in the day (prize table subject to our results) plus the company and guidance from your resident golf pro’s for the day.

What else could you ask for?

Friday 20th March – Brocket Hall – Matt Team Filled.
Monday 6th April – Old Fold Manor

Then the PGA East region offer the majority of the Pro-Ams through the season.

The highlights are: John O’Gaunt, Hadley Wood (which includes a free practice round before the event), Bush Hill Park, East Herts, The Grove, Saffron Walden, Porters Park and many more.

Pro Shop Challenge

Michael Brown and Nic Fowler are the first pair to snap up a date in the Pro Shop Challenge. Followed by Mark Garrett and Liam Timpson.

The format this year will be a Pairs Texas Scramble and 1/6th combined handicap will be applied. The winning pair over the course of the year will receive a brand new Cleveland putter each and of course side bets will be on offer.

This is a FREE to enter event and open to both members and users of Stevenage Golf Conference Centre, but must have a valid handicap to take part.

Coaching news

Be a Player...

Towards the back end of last season, I hosted some nine-hole, group on-course playing sessions called ‘Be a Player’. It was based on a book I read last summer and the aim is to merge your technique and human skills to bring together performance.

Working on technique is always important, however, once you are on the course it is often your mental state that needs attention.

These sessions are aimed at both the golf club player and advanced players and presents a series of 'human skills'. Played over nine holes, we will experiment and explore these human skills through a series of explorations on the golf course that strip away the many swing thoughts going on at any one time.

The goal is to unite your technical skills and on-course performance to unlock your golfing potential and breakdown milestones! We have scheduled three dates starting next month, costing £20 per person with a maximum of three in a group. Starting in March, Be a Player dates are as follows:

Thursday 26th March - 2:00pm tee off.

Sociable sessions

Playing golf with your friends is one of the best things about this sport but, if you’re tired of playing long strokeplay rounds in your fourball, why not try some of the fun formats below the next time you find yourself going out in a four?

4BBB

This game is a lot of fun and sees both team members play their own ball, with the lowest score counting at each hole. In a fourball betterball match, players receive 90% of the difference from the player with the lowest handicap.

Greensomes

Both partners tee off on each hole. You then choose the best drive and play alternate shots for the rest of the hole. Your greensomes handicap should be 60% of the lower partner’s handicap added to 40% of the higher partner’s.

Gruesomes

This is a great way to find out who your true friends are as the format is the same as Greensomes only your opposition decide which drive you play from. Although don't blame us if you all end up falling out over it.
