Pro Shop Challenge

Last week we announced the pro shop challenge will be returning and with a new format. We had pairs chomping at the bit to get signed up and we have the dates announced through the season starting on Thrusday 2nd April.

The format this year will be a Pairs Texas Scramble and 1/6th combined handicap will be applied. The winning pair over the course of the year will receive a brand new Cleveland putter each and of course side bets will be on offer.

This is a FREE to enter event and open to both members and users of Stevenage Golf Conference Centre, but must have a valid handicap to take part.

Coaching news

Be a Player...

Towards the back end of last season I hosted some 9 hole, group on-course playing sessions called ‘Be a Player’. It was based on a book I read last summer and the aim is to merge your technique and human skills to bring together performance.

Working on technique is always important, however, once you are on the course it is often your mental state that needs attention.

These sessions are aimed at both the golf club player and advanced players and presents a series of 'human skills'. Played over nine holes, we will experiment and explore these human skills through a series of explorations on the golf course that strip away the many swing thoughts going on at any one time.

The goal is to unite your technical skills and on course performance to unlock your golfing potential and breakdown milestones! We have scheduled three dates starting next month, costing £20 per person with a maximum of three in a group. Starting in March, Be a Player Dates are as follows:

Thursday 5th March - 2:00pm tee off.
Wednesday 18th March - 2:00pm tee off.
Thursday 26th March - 2:00pm tee off.

SuperSpeed Clinics

Last year we were the first site in the UK to offer and host the UK’s first Speed Clinic. In March it is back!

SuperSpeed Speed clinics start on Tuesday 17th March at 7:00pm, limited to six people..

The cost is only £200 and includes your own SuperSpeed set.

The sets cost £200 alone so essentially the clinic is included FREE of charge with your purchase.

I've been back into my speed training this year and if you follow me on social media you would have seen me post my speeds so far.

This week I had an all time personal best of 141mph stick speed and it was with the medium weighted club! 138mph was my best last year with the light stick so to get over 140mph with the slightly heavier medium weight even I was impressed.

It means that my ‘normal’ driver speed is continually creeping up and I am now hitting it at least 10 yards further carry now than this time last year.

Get into Golf

Do you know anyone that wants to try golf or used to play and considering getting back to it? We have new ‘Get into Golf’ sessions starting in April.

The first group session will start on Saturday 4th April starting at 2:00pm. This is a five week class and will be limited to six people per class and include a FREE club to anyone that doesn’t have their own or borrowed equipment.

Booking will become available online, but if you can’t wait until then contact me direct to book your ‘wannabe’ golfer onto the first course.

Pro's news

MB players doing well

I just wanted to mention a couple of notable performers recently. Allan Danhaher has been on a winter coaching programme and has been playing well recently consistently under his handicap, then on Saturday had an awesome 48 points! Also gaming one of the SIM demos, but I put it down to Allan’s winter coaching and great work ethic to practice.

Steve Howarth and Sean Weatherburn finished second with 40points each, also part of the MB stable after some sessions at the back end of last year and both are still playing well.

Gill Brame has had a cut in her handicap at Letchworth, well done Gill. Another golfer with a great practice ethic and on the MB monthly coaching plan. Ewen Macinnes' 39 points at home club Brocket Hall this week, great knock!
