Playing Achievements Goals My playing achievements Goals were to qualify for one of the 3 main better ball pro-ams on the calendar The Lombard, The Staysure and the Pro-Captain challenge. All better ball events and only the winning pairs qualify. Unfortunately, the Lombard was cancelled for unforeseen circumstances by the PGA. First up was the Staysure and I was extremely pleased that one of last years ‘winter unlimited coaching’ pupil, Mike Lake won the club event to earn the right to play with me at the regional final at Foxhills in Surrey. The event was oversubscribed so from the 8 regional events, Foxhills was the only stage to have 2 spaces available to progress. If you read the edition back in the summer we finished in a tie for second with 44pts and missed out on countback. It was great to see Mike play so well in such a high profile event. Stevenage Captain Mike Murray was my playing partner at Old Fold Manor and again only the winning pair would progress. A solid 40pts and a t10 finish was a respectable finish but not quite enough to progress. It was a pleasure to play with Mike who is someone I have worked with over the last year through the monthly coaching plan and seen improve significantly during that time. One playing achievement I didn’t target was qualifying for the National PGA Championship. I entered the qualifying event and missed out by one shot. However the day before the event I got in as the first reserve. I jumped at the chance to play in the highlight of the PGA calendar and although I just missed the cut with a +2 and a level par round I was pleased with my performance for such little preparation. It will certainly be on my target for next year. I also wanted to take 6 teams to Pro-Am’s. In the end, it was only two teams but something I am looking at certainly improving again next year. Finally, I wanted to arrange my first golf trip. With these two things, firstly I left it a tad late to get decent tee times and secondly because of the tee times the interested wasn’t there. Read on for information for next year. So overall I was pleased with my stats and playing goals even if I didn’t totally achieve them, however, I need to improve the pro-am and coaching trip for 2020. So what are your goals? Let me have them and if brave enough let’s share them in this newsletter and hold you accountable for them. Whatever they are now is time to plan.
