Old Fold Manor Pro-Am On Monday myself and Stevenage Golf Club Captain Mike Murray were in better-ball, Pro-am action at Old Fold Manor Golf Club taking on 47 other pairs for just 1 qualifying spot for the final. An early tee time of 8:10 at least meant we should arrive before the main part of rush hour and hopefully the best part of the greens. Was what happened on the first hole an insight into what was to come on the day after I hit the flag with my second shot and instead of stopping dead or going in, it kicked off the flag and moved further away from the hole. The game plan? We needed birdies and lots of them, based on previous experience at least 43 points is needed to have any chance with it normally getting towards 44 or 45points. The track not being the longest and Mike receiving 7 of hits 8 shots would go first, put it in play and I would bang driver and get as close to the green as possible. Missed chances at the first 3 holes looked to be costly. We made birdie at 4 and 6 then again at 9. A steady start but we needed to push on. Pars at the next 3 and a missed opportunity at the par 5 before a birdie at 15 then a dropped shot at 16 meant our score was not going to be good enough. Even with a birdie at the last 40points was going to be shy. 45 points was eventually the winning score and our 40 was good enough for a top 10 Finish. We had a great day out but it was a story of what could have been. If you fancy playing in some Pro-Am’s keep reading for upcoming team events over the coming months. |
