Club news

Lots of praise...

This week we hosted a regional final for the NAPGC which is the UK public golf course championships.

Over 50 players played at our golf course from all over the east of England to qualify for the grand finals and some fantastic comments were made about the condition of the golf course.

We had a good number of players from Stevenage GC representing and at the time of writing this the results had t been fully released, so as I get them I will publish then here.

Teaching bay

This week we upgraded our teaching bay simulator software. Which is exciting for us as we will have even better data to coach.

However, what could excite you is that it also came with 3 new golf courses which you will soon be able to hire out and play on! How does pebble beach sound to you? I know amazing right! We will soon release hire times and prices!

SuperSpeed Clinic

We are into the penultimate week of our six week class. Like we said from week 1 this is the first site in the UK to deliver a speed clinic and the results would be an evolving data piece.

Firstly, the unexplainable, Gill's before speed is slightly slower then when we started, however, she is hitting it further than before. How? Well her efficiency (smash factor) has improved.

Secondly, more positives, Malcolm’s ‘before’ speed is now up on the first week! He has had 3 nett 70’s in the last few weeks and has been cut a shot! As Gill’s home course is elsewhere, I don’t have her scores but she has been cut two shots since starting.

This week both had some amazing PB’s with the stick work. And this is the important part. If the stick work is good the rest will follow.

There are 13 reps in the level one protocol and this week Gill had 6 new max speed PB’s and Malcolm had 8! Both swung it their fastest ever!

I also took part and my numbers are also below. My before swing was 114mph and after 118 I also ‘jumped’ on some to see how fast I could go. 120+ mph!

If you want to hit the ball further too, then the next SuperSpeed class starts on 18th July at 7pm.

The course will run for 6 weeks with a 45 minute session each week going through the protocols as well as gathering before and after club head speed data, just like above with Malcolm and Gill.

The course costs £220 but that includes the SuperSpeed sticks which are worth £200 themselves, so basically you are getting the 6 week sessions for FREE.

Putting things right

Sometimes, it's the most obvious things that get overlooked. When it comes to golf, the club most used in a round is a putter so surely it's the part of the game that deserves most attention?

We know this isn't a reality for many, but a combination of working hard on your stroke and having a putter that is suited to your stroke type will certainly improve your chances on the greens - two things that this promotion is all about.

Reading between the lines

One of the hardest things in golf is green reading; it is also something that the majority of golfers never learn how to do properly. So, without giving away all the secrets, here are some handy tips to help keep you on track and hole more putts.

High and low

Prior to reaching the green, take note of the high and low points of the surface and where your ball lies in respect to these. This will help you to build a general picture before reaching your ball.

360 picture

If you’re struggling to read which way your putt breaks from behind the ball, try walking around to the other side of the hole as this can often highlight any breaks you may have missed or reaffirm your original read.

Are you focusing on the wrong thing?

As soon as the ball has left the putter face, we know whether it’s going to be good or not. It’s like a sixth sense, right? But what constitutes a good putt? Many golfers let the final outcome decide this – i.e. whether the ball ends up in the hole or not – but that is arguably well out of our control. So, perhaps it's time to refocus on what we can control?

There are only two things we can really control when it comes to putting. The first is starting the ball on the correct line. Take Tiger Woods for example; the 15-time major winner focuses on a blade of grass he wants the ball to roll over immediately in front of him, which brings the intended target much closer to impact.

The second is getting the ball rolling correctly, which means imparting top spin as quickly as possible after impact rather than having it jumping and skidding in the air.

One way to control our putting is by utilising the technology in Cleveland's fantastic TFi 2135 putters.

Two things work in tandem to enhance your performance. Face milled heads add forgiveness on mishits for a more consistent speed no matter where you strike the ball on the face, whilst a Polymer TPU insert dampens vibrations through impact for a better feel.
