Always do your homework...

We are now into the second session of the UK’s first SuperSpeed clinic and gathering more data. Gill and Malcolm arrived already warmed up so we went straight into gathering the ‘before’ club speed data. As Gill stepped up first last week, it was Malcolm’s turn to go first.

This is a ‘live’ and evolving event so the numbers were rather intriguing. Once the numbers were gathered we went through the level 1 protocol both put in some good numbers.

Standout numbers from week 1 to this week were: Malcolm jumped 10mph with the heavy stick from a normal stance and 10mph with the light stick for the step change drill. Gill jumped 9mph with the heavy stick doing a normal driver stance and 14mph with light stick doing step-ins.

Overall both made gains in the before and after. Gill gained only half a mph and Malcolm gained 5mph but both were down on the ‘after’ numbers from last week.

My first thoughts if I’m honest were that I was hoping/expecting both before and after speed to be better than last week, then they throw me a curve ball. Both ‘speedsters’ only did 1 speed session in between the clinics.

So this week’s homework is to make sure to do a session every other day!

We had a really good session but most importantly the after was better.

I have had some interest in the next SpeedClinic, which is now scheduled to start Thursday 18th July at 7pm. The class will be £200 and includes the purchase of the speedsticks which are £200 on their own!

Take up the challenge

Last week we had the 4th match of the new Pro Shop Challenge.

Kieran and I teamed up against ‘team One-Length’ and Father & Son pairing Dan and Jon Williams.

Now I’m not saying I can see into the future but my tweet preceding the game predicted a potential pair atop the leader board.

It was a slow-ish start for both pairs with steady pars before the Williams pairing nett birdied 4 as we dropped a shot. Then the fun and games began as Dan chipped in (using the demo wedge from the shop) for a birdie two nett 1! Then Kieran, after a great tee shot to just off the green, followed him in for his own nett1! Team Williams were now -3 against our -1 through 5 holes.

Some strong golf from our opponents through the remaining holes and another nett birdie from the pair on the 9th meant they finished at -4 for the front nine and a lead of three shots over the next pairs. A birdie from us at nine gave us a respectable -2 and our first defeat in the challenge.

Can the Williams pair keep the lead until the end of the season and claim the new golf bags? Want to knock them off the top then we have an unexpected date available. One of the pairs has pulled out which means the next date is Tuesday 18th June at 2pm.

This date will be on a first come basis so get in fast if you want to take a pair of the pro shop team on and try and win a golf bag each for the best pair over the season.

Not long now...

I have confirmation of two tee times on the Longcross course at Foxhills on Thursday 20th June at 1pm.

Originally it was a practice round for Stevenage Golf Club member Mike Lake and I for the Staysure Pro-Am regional final in July. We currently have a fourball going and as such we have four more spaces available on a first-come-first-served basis. You do need a recognised handicap and a certificate which will be required to show the resort on the day.

If demand is higher than two tee times then I will contact Foxhills to see if more can be arranged.
