Hello Golfers,

Welcome back to a snowy/frozen Stevenage Golf Centre.

The snow fell Tuesday evening which has meant a couple of days of course closure. But that has not stopped us from keeping busy. The range has been open and we have carried on coaching in the teaching bay and 5 ladies made it on Wednesday morning for the ladies coaching session which included some TPI work and correctional exercises which kept us warm.

Ryan hosted over 50 members for his Rules night on Tuesday which was a huge success and Father Christmas’s distant relative, Father Golfer, delivered lots of big and small boxes for us to unwrap, which inspired us to do some freshening up in the Shop.

One new brand for the store this year is adidas! We were impressed with the apparel and shoes when we met them last autumn.

With players like Dustin Johnston, Sergio Garcia, John Rahm, Paula Creamer and Xander Schauffele all high profile wearing the apparel and shoes, plus Justin Rose still wearing the shoes, we think you will be impressed with the collection.

All our new Cobra fitting components are now in store.

We have the full range of iron models, driver heads, fairways and hybrids all to try and be fitted with the many, many shafts using our state of the art GC2 launch monitor as well as a full trial set to venture out on the course and see how it performs on the course.

Welcome to Ryan’s round up!

This is the first one in some time. But there is lots is going on at the moment: start of the new season, new equipment and a few other bits.

First of all I would like to say thank you to all the members that attended my rules evening on Tuesday. It was fantastic to see such a good turnout even though there was snow coming down at the time. Lots of great discussions on the night and in the days that followed.

There is plenty of new stock coming into the shop at the moment, Cobra F9 clubs and Callaway epic flash woods along with adidas clothing and shoes and Puma footwear for this year. Get yourself some new gear for the season ahead.

Talking about the season ahead, I’m going to be doing a special offer untill the end of February which is FREE fittings for any member.

I also started a new program with the juniors last week with a Saturday morning class and the Tiger Club is a great new structured program we will be following. There will be some brand new groups starting in March, so if you have kids that maybe interested please send us a email.

Coaching news

Get into golf - new in 2019!

If you are new to golf or know someone that you think would like to try this game, get them booked onto one of the 5 week courses that are scheduled to start in March. The cost is only £40 per person and the new golfer will receive a new 7 iron as part of the course.

Over 50’s group classes

New for 2019 is the introduction of the over 50’s group class.

Just like the ladies group class this is a weekly ‘roll up’ session with no commitments. Just come and go to sessions as you please at £6 a person including coffee afterwards, covering all areas of the game and topics will change from week to week.

Now in its second week and we have grown from two golfers in week one to five this week. It’s a very friendly session and topics change from week to week with input from the attendees as well what they would like to work on.

Day coaching dates

Due to the success of these dates last year, I have scheduled a new date for this exclusive group session.

The first one is Thursday 14th February, meeting at 9:30am for a 10:00am start.

The day consists of club and video analysis, introduction to BodiTrak, lunch and a 9 hole playing lesson, but is limited to just 3 people per group.

(Bunker) practice makes perfect

When you think of fine-tuning your game, how often does that mean working on your bunker play? The chances are you would prefer to strike some irons down the range instead of getting stuck in to some sandy lies - but improving your bunker play is key to making sure you have the all-round game to lower your handicap.

One great way of practicing bunker shots is to see if your impact in the sand is in the same spot with each swing. Do this by drawing a line with your club in the sand that is perpendicular to the hole; then place three balls a few inches in front. After hitting the three shots, notice where your club has entered the sand with regards to the line - do you have a consistent strike pattern?

Spotlight: Epic Flash driver

This time two years ago, we were sitting here in fascination as Callaway introduced Jailbreak Technology for the very first time, which produced significant distance gains for a lot of golfers.

Fast forward to now and Callaway is bringing Epic Flash to market (arriving here in a couple of weeks), which they say has a 'radically different face design' that will promote even faster ball speeds and, in turn, even more distance.
