A Round with Ryan
Welcome back to the third addition of Ryan’s column. What a week? Snow, Phil getting it done again and a very interesting cobra fitting day. First of all, what is more disastrous to us than snow. We had the golf course closed for 5 days, exactly what we do not need with the start of the season less than a month away. And I’m sure for some of you, like me, were actually stuck at home not able to do a lot. I was however able to use the time to make some headway with my assignments. So it’s not all bad news. We also were treated to some great golf from Mexico. The attitude allowed players to driver 400+ yard holes easily. Which was all capped off by probably the most interesting final 4 of 5 holes I’ve seen in a while with Justin Thomas holing out on the last to post the score, then getting to watch everyone try to catch him. Great to see Phil getting it done for the first time since his Open win. He also made it very clear he’s not done winning yet at the age of 47. Finally on Monday, Matt, Luke and I along with some customers got fitted with the new cobra equipment. Safe to say it was very successful with all three of us putting cobra products in our bags this year. My own fit was a bit of an eye opener. For those of you who have seen me play, you will know I’m not the longest golfer in the world, often a club, if not two, behind the other two boys. After choosing the head and lie angle we began to experiment with shafts. I’ve always struggled with this as I don’t swing it very fast but spin it loads, so finding something that works is tough. After experiencing with all the light weight steel shafts, we tried something different - a graphite shaft. And the numbers were insane. Gaining a club and a bit in yardage, keeping the spin down with a higher peak height, it’s a no brainier. So my irons this year will be a bit different, with a graphite shaft. So watch this space for me telling you all how much my iron game has improved. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed your insight to my week and I keep you updated on what I get up to next week.
