Welcome back to this week’s edition of our newsletter. This week we have two round reports, deal of the week, a ONE length review update from John and Black Friday news.

Final Captain/Pro Match

So this week I played with Russel in our last Captain and Pro Match of 2017. Having won our previous 5 matches, a win here would mean a 100% record for the year and we didn’t want all our hard work to be undone in our final match.

Our opponents were Graham Anderson-Payne and Nick Forshew and they were receiving 23 and 18 shots respectively while Russel was getting 13 shots. Two nett birdies on holes one and two meant we were unusually 2 down; however that was short lived as I proceeded to birdie 3 and 4 to square the match.

We turned at 3 up and, after our usual siesta, at 10 and 11 lost both holes before Russell stopped the rot by producing a nett birdie on 12. After winning 13 and halving 14 &15 we were dormy 3 up and a win at 16 sealed a 4&2 victory and 6 wins from 6!

Thanks to Russell for a great year of matches and all of our opponents for the very enjoyable matches. I’ll look forward to 2018 with a new partner - Senior Captain Roy Alexander.

Porters Park Pro Am

On Wednesday I took a second team of Stevenage Golf Club Members which was made up of Michael Brown, Simon Hinton and Paul McEwan to the Herts PGA alliance Pro Am at Porters Park.

If you haven’t played Porters Park it is a worthwhile visit if you can arrange a trip there. Very pleasant on the eye and some fantastic looking holes. Along with a great days weather we had a great day out, some good laughs, but unfortunately the golf wasn’t very competitive. If you didn’t follow my ‘story’ on Instagram here are a view pics from the day.

The course was playing hard and the winning score was -10 for the team event and left us 10 shots back. We just couldn’t get a team score going.

ONE Length Report

This is the penultimate report from John:

I had a Bucket of balls on Tuesday and a par 3 practice on Wednesday which all helped towards Saturday's first game of the winter league. I Went out in the last group, irons felt good and only misshit a few and a bit of a slice with the 5 wood. The slight slice was disappointing but I shot 103, so delighted with that considering the rain we played through. Back to the range to sort out why I’m slicing as it’s frustrating.

Black Friday

Black Friday is another ‘Americanism’ that seems to have crossed the Atlantic over recent years and of course we have jumped right on the Black Friday idea! For one Weekend only there will be some ridiculous shop offers but this is while stocks last!
