Welcome back golfers to this week's edition of the Stevenage golf and conference centre newsletter.

This is the time of year where we start to transition into the 'off season' this however doesn't mean we start to wind down. Quite the contrary, over the next month we will be starting to plan for 2018; we have meetings planned in October with numerous manufacturers to get ready for next season. We have meetings with Titleist, Footjoy, Callaway, Srixon, COBRA, PUMA, Masters, and new for 2018 Shotscope, gps and golf stats system!

End of season Pro Ams

There are some great Pro Ams coming up to finish the season off nicely. All teams for the following dates must consist of 3 amateurs and myself:

  • Thursday 26th October at Hadley Wood
  • Wednesday 8th November at Porters Park
  • Monday 20th November at Sandy lodge (Ask Gordon Farmer what Sandy Lodge is like)

Coaching news

Ladies group coaching

The Ladies group classes continue to grow with over 30 ladies having attended and regularly turned up to the no commitment group classes. Classes take place on Wednesdays at 10am and Saturdays at 9am.

The group sessions change topics every week and now a lot of the ladies have joined our academy membership.

We can't promise you that...

Since last year’s TOUR Championship, Justin Thomas has conjured up five wins – including his maiden Major victory at the USPGA – and seven other top 10 finishes; results that have seen him rise up to fourth in the World Golf Rankings while cementing himself as one of golf’s brightest stars. 

These performances, culminating in a runner-up finish in last week's season-ending TOUR Championship, saw Thomas take the top spot in the FedEx Cup (the PGA Tour’s OOM) and the juicy $10 million bonus that goes along with that.

Keep your ball in play

If you struggle to keep your drives on the short stuff then it’s probably about time you looked at improving this area of your game. Feeling confident when standing over a tee shot is crucial to hitting a good drive and that’s where we come in.

You might be surprised that there isn’t a bigger difference between the stats in this graph. The real difference comes when you look at how far offline the misses finish.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out hitting it straighter will reduce lost balls and increase your chance of making pars, which is why we highly recommend having a driver you’re confident in and one that’s set-up to counter your most common bad shot.

Layer up, winter's coming

A common misconception among many golfers is that adding layers will completely restrict your swing.
