Welcome to another edition of the newsletter!
This week I got to play a practice round with Gordon Farmer at Sandy Lodge Golf Club where next month we will be representing the site and club at the regional final of The National Lombard Qualifier which Gordon qualified to play with me in due to his win in a recent Stevenage Golf Club Competition.
It is a course neither of us had played before and I am glad we did. Firstly the condition of the course was fantastic which, considering it held 'The Open' qualifying on Monday, was what you would expect it to be, but it was more the layout of the course that got us thinking. It is a very nice mix of strong holes with long par 4's and 5's but with a couple of quirky par 3's, none more than the 8th, a small par 3 of 90 yards but with a slope which made our 6th green look relatively flat. A sand wedge and four putts later the note in the yardage book was 'Don't be left of the hole or you will 4 putt again!' Lesson learnt.
That is the joy of having a practice round, it is about learning a new course and where you can and can't hit it. I also haven't played much golf recently so it was good to evaluate my game and I will definitely put a lot of work in on my putting and short game as I hit it well, but due to a lack of play my, distance control on the greens was average to say the least. It was great to spend the afternoon with Gordon and I look forward to playing and hopefully booking our place to Portugal next month.
Golf Pride's Latest
This week it is a new grip that has reached the shop. The new Golf Pride Align is looking very smart in the MCC and MCC+, it is a new feature to help you 'align' you up and grip the club properly.

July Special
Book a 9 hole playing lesson for ONLY £40 saving £20 OFF the normal rate. This is a great time to get out on the course and talk about getting the ball in the hole. Working on your technique off the course is great and I'm 100% behind improving technique, however the driving range is not like the course and some struggle to transfer their range game on to the course.
In these sessions we discuss course management, when to be defensive and offensive, dealing with situations, routine, what happens after a bad shot etc - after all, it is about getting it in the hole in the fewest shots! Not how, but how many!
Click here to book any of my offers or to discuss how we can improve your game.
