US Open specials
This week we have the 2nd Major of the year, the US Open. I was really impressed with Rory McIlroy voicing his opinions about the USGA cutting back the rough after some players had a moan that it was too harsh. I don't think enough players speak up and challenge the authorities enough so it was good to hear.
Last week we mentioned that Titleist have a special limited edition ball with '69' stamped on them to celebrate they are the number one ball played at the US Open and have been for 69 years! It is safe to say they have been flying out! I'm not sure if that's because people really like the fact that Titleist are the number one ball or that 69 happens to be their favourite number. Either way, not many are left so if you want a 69 on your golf ball get in quick!
I also mentioned that the FootJoy DNA 2.0 Golf shoes are on offer for £89.99 down from £139.99. Last week I assumed they were releasing a new shoe and after seeing the FootJoy rep yesterday I can confirm a new shoe retailing at £179.99 is coming! For that price it better be a good shoe.
The 3 fundamentals - but which is King?
I coach 3 fundamentals
- The low point control: Strike the ball and then the turf (with irons)
- Power: Build a swing with enough power to play the course/tees to suit you and your handicap
- Curve: Control where the ball starts and the direction it curves.
Well I came across a quote online this week and I couldn't of put it better myself. "Solid contact is King, power is a useful addition and curve is something to appreciate and consider" If you think of it this way, you could have the fastest club head speed in the world but if you hit the ground before ball all the energy goes into the ground and not the ball. So once getting the strike you become more efficient. Then can we get you to hit it further still with technique. Then if you have total control of the direction, appreciate it. Even the best players in the world don't have total control!
