Product spotlight

Last week I mentioned we went to a Golf Pride product day I can honestly say there are more to grips than I thought. What did we learn? We looked at the MCC's and Plus4's, CP2 Pro and Wraps and the SNSR putter grips. What the different rubber compounds and tapers do and how they can help you. How over 80% of tour players trust their grips from Golf Pride against competitors.

One interesting discussion amongst the group, (initiated by myself mainly because I have been experimenting with my own grips) was the grip size. Traditionally when holding the grip the club 'tapers' in size along the shaft. Golf seems to be the only sport where the handle or grip is a similar size to the bit of equipment. The traditional theory goes that if your grip was too small your hands would be over active and hit the ball in all directions, if the grip was too large then you would lose hand speed and generally hit the ball to the right (for right handers). But think of this, the handle on a cricket bat, the grip of a tennis racquet, the handle of a baseball bat. All a lot larger than a golf grip. Does the thicker handles on those stop Joe Root hitting a cricket ball out of the ground, does the grip on the tennis racquet stop Andy Murray hitting a serve over 140mph, does the baseball bat handle stop a player hitting the ball out of the ground for a home run. The answer is no! Now I'm not saying we should all go from our normal grips to putting jumbo grips on our clubs, but it is worth food for thought the next time you get your clubs gripped. Are they the right size, have you got enough layers of tape on, have you got reduced taper etc etc. look at it this way - would you put cheap tyres that are the wrong size on your car? Probably not.

Well one of the most interesting things we found out was that once the grips come out of the press there is some excess on the joins, however considering all the machines and robots in the world they still have to sand the excess off by hand! Considering Golf Pride make millions and millions of grips it is amazing that people sand them to become the perfect grip that you put on your club! We will be hosting a demo night with a difference.

Golf Pride will be onsite on Thursday 23rd March 4pm - 8pm to offer you a FREE grip fitting. They will be using the same principle as our FREE grip on your 7 iron promotion but taking it one step further. To book your slot contact us by clicking here.

Fitting news

Talking about demo nights, the COBRA night was a great success, with 8 players trying product and getting fit. The great thing about these nights is you can see how your clubs compare against other clubs and see potential improvements or, if in the case of one of the guys, there was no gains and then at least you have the confidence that the current club is correct for you.

The next demo nights are:
- Golf Pride - Thursday 23rd March 4-8pm
- Lynx - Thursday 30th March 3:30-7:30pm
- Callaway - Thursday 27th April 4-8pm

Important news

Modernising Golf's Rules

Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.

Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say on the proposed changes.

We've picked out some of the most significant Rules changes for you to digest in this survey, before giving you the chance to say whether you agree or disagree with each of them. It'll be great to know your thoughts.

Have your say here.
