Last week I was invited to play in the Essex PGA Championship Pro Am. My Pal is the head pro at Chigwell and asked if I would play with one of his teams, which I was more than happy to do.
I have been playing reasonably well recently but haven't played competitively since August so it was good to get the competitive juices flowing again. I had a great day out with the team, there was some great 'bants' amongst our team and some good play. The format was a pro individual and the best two from four team stableford. We teed off the 10th and had a very slow start for the team score and were only 3 stableford points better at the turn. One of the team, who was quite new to playing in Pro Ams, thought we were going along nicely. I had to explain in this type of format 3 under was miles off the pace and that normally 15-20 under wins the team event.
Well that seemed to inspire the boys because on the front 9 (our back nine) they all went into turbo and we finished the nine holes 16 points better with a 91 point total. I had a steady round of 10 straight pars but a double bogey at the second hole (our 11th) knocked me back but I was able to keep my nice play going and finished with 4 birdies in the last 7 holes, finishing at 2 under and in 2nd place on my own.
Pro Ams are a great day out, so if you fancy playing in any Pro Ams with me, please check out the schedules below and let me know what one(s) you would like to play. Formats are normally 3 Amateurs and 1 Pro and can cost from £40-£75 per amateur, depending on where the venue is.
- Essex PGA Pro Ams
- Herts PGA Pro Ams - Next one Monday 7th November at Hanbury Manor. £65 per person.
- There is also a Pro Am at The Hertfordshire Golf and Country Club, Wednesday 21st December, with Coffee and Bacon roll, 10:30am shotgun start, and one course meal included.
Great to see one of my guys doing well, Nick Monk, winning the Winter League Stableford with 41 points even though he finished double bogey, double bogey! So what could it of been? Part of having coaching is being able to put in the practice between sessions and Nick has certainly been doing that. Remember all my clients have access to an 'Eduffi' training space, 'Coaches Eye' video software and GC2/HMT on all Sessions.
