Pros news

Ladies British Open

This week I was fortunate enough to spend Tuesday at Woburn and have a wonder around the Marquees course, watching some of the world's best women golfers. I have been to a few tour events live on competition days, but I don't think anything matches going to an event on a practice day. There are hardly any crowds - sometimes you can walk between the ropes and often have a chat with the players. I thought a selfie would be going too far.

Well Tuesday was a great experience and I got to see some of the Brits, including Charley Hull, Emma Boulden, Laura Davies and Mel Reid. No disrespect to them, but there were some other names that I was hunting down: Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko and Paula Creamer. All of them are awesome. I posted some pictures and videos online and got a like from Lexi Thompson on Instagram and a Retweet from Paula Creamer on Twitter; so safe to say I was happy as Larry. Click here to view a video.

We have two tickets to be used on any day at Woburn this week and tried to give them away online but no successful participants won them. If you want them get in touch here with a reason as to why you want them and the best reason will get them. You must be able to collect them from us and they are for admission to the event only. I can't recommend these days highly enough.

On a selfish point, I had great access to the players and even sneaked into the clubhouse with the help of our member Rich Moore who was caddying in the Pro-Am. I can't quite help thinking that the organisers have missed a trick. People are often saying we need to get more people into this game we love.

Why were there no crowds there on Tuesday?

It should have been really busy. The kids are off school, parents looking for things to do, it was free for everyone to get in! The location is 30 minutes from London and there was free parking on site. Why were the organisers not screaming from the roof tops?! I just don't get it. I haven't seen hardly any marketing or broadcasting about the event and I couldn't tell you if it's even on TV. What is that all about? So if you get the chance to go this week you will have a great time.

Away Day

I was so impressed with Woburn this week and realised I haven't actually played any of the three courses. Because of that, I'm arranging an Away Day at Woburn. The date is TBC but will probably be around the middle of September. The day will include bacon rolls and coffee on arrival, one round in the morning, two-course lunch and a second round on a different course in the afternoon. If you fancy this trip and wish to register your interest please contact me.

Coach corner

Next Wednesday I'm putting on a members' clinic for FREE. The topic is 'controlling the low point' and to give you an overview of the topic, you can check out my YouTube video from last week (click here).

The new teaching bay has been given the all clear and booked in for installation the week of 15th August. I have included an CGI image of what it will look like here, but promise you this doesn't do it justice. We will be showing off our new state-of-the-art coaching facility on Saturday, 20 August with an Open Day. Watch this space for more details.

I had a meeting this week with a recognised junior coaching organisation, to get some ideas on how we can increase participation in a junior programme. Over the coming weeks we will be releasing new dates and courses for junior golf.

In the meantime, if you would like to register you interest please contact me and we will be in touch when we have some news.

Shop news

Only two PowaKaddy FW3 trolleys are left in stock. We are selling them at £399.99, which is £100 cheaper than the RRP and £50 cheaper than American Golf *cough*. Please remember if we don't have an item in stock we can often source the product for you or you can use our Click and Collect service.

Just for example, a customer wanted a GolfBuddy GPS watch. I ordered it through our Buying group and it was here the next day - that's service!

Finally, if you're thinking of booking a golf holiday we have links with a couple of partners and I would happily get you some quotes to help you along your way, even if it just gives you a bench mark on what you can expect to pay. Come and speak to me in-store for more details.
