I'm writing this in front of the TV with The Open on in the background. What a week it looks like being. The first day looked very benign and the scores seem to reflect this, with the course playing fairly easy for the top boys without the defence from the wind. The next few days look a bit dodgy up in Scotland so I imagine the best of the scoring came during day one.

What can you learn from watching the guys up at Royal Troon this week?

I have been mentioning it in the newsletter for the past few weeks and it is one of the clinics that I am regularly putting on - Beat the Course. The ways the guys are managing the course is something to admire. Unlike a normal tour event where the fairway bunkers are no penalty what so ever, at Troon they are vicious and if the players hit it in the bunkers - especially the fairway ones - it is more than likely they will drop a shot. So the majority of players will have a game plan to avoid the bunkers. That may mean hitting an iron from the tee and leaving a longer than ideal second shot, but they will make sure with the tee shot they are short of the trouble.

On Thursday, 28 July we have our Titleist Demo Event at Stevenage. The event is FREE and the perfect time to try any Titleist product. My ladies group is expanding from Wednesdays at 10am to include Saturdays as well, at the same time. It is a great way for lady golfers of any standard to get some affordable coaching in a relaxed environment with other lady golfers. I have a similar class for seniors on a Thursday morning at 10am, last week we had 12 gents turn up. Putting was on the agenda so now there are 12 more guys with a better idea of how to improve their putting from both views of technique and routine.
