If you can't play like the pros, at least look like one…
With summer now upon us (we hope), you'll soon be digging through your wardrobe trying to find a respectable polo shirt to wear. Inevitably you'll have a few that you bought 10 years ago which look tatty and old with the colour faded; then there's your favourite shirt from a few years back that you are trying so desperately hard to fit in to; and then you have the shirt with a few stains on but you wear under a jumper anyway as no-one will see.
Sound about right?
We have some lovely looking and great fitting shirts in-store at the moment - just take a look at the photos here.
You may have been in to take a look earlier on in the year, but we've recently received a new drop of clothing from all of our apparel brands. Not only that, but we regularly change around what we have on display so it is worth coming in for a browse if you haven't had a look in the last few weeks. There's bound to be a shirt or two that's right up your street.
So come and see us in-store, take a browse at the numerous collections we have, try on some shirts and look the part on the course this summer. Remember what they say:
Look good, feel great, play well...
So this week I played in the Lombard Trophy National Pro-Am Regional Final with Bob 'The Grip' Morris. Bob qualified for this about five weeks ago in a club competition at Stevenage. With one qualifying spot available for the grand final, the chances of qualifying were slim but we went confident with our games. It was held at Ashridge GC and it was both of our first trips playing the course. If you haven't played it, it is well worth a visit.
It was a medal betterball competition. We dropped a shot at the first and then with me birding the second, Bob making nett birdies at 4 and 7 plus a gross birdie at 9 (I will add I 'stiffed' it at nine but Bob holed a fantastic putt from about 20 feet to beat me to the birdie!), we turned in three-under and were still looking at making a good score. However we went into par mode and even with me making back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15, we knew five-under wouldn't quite be good enough.
Nine-under was in the clubhouse which was a score we could have matched, before a 13-under came in and we both went 'oh well, better luck next year'. So Bob couldn't quite get his grip on the trophy. He is keen to qualify next year but can anyone else replace him?
Personally I had a great day, Bob was great company, we both played some nice golf and the golf course was fantastic.
Last week, Dec and I played in the East Region Championship at Essendon on the Old Course. The event was scheduled to be played over two days. Dec shot +4 for a T78 in round one, while I shot -1 for T27. Day two began with a three-hour rain delay, Dec actually got to complete his second round and while I had two holes to go, the heavens opened and play was suspended. With the course flooded, round two was abandoned and so the competition was decided over the first round. Disappointing way to end the competition but at least there was some much improved golf from both of us from the previous week at the London Open. Like I said last week, if you want to play in a competitive professional event with me or Dec in any Pro-Am please come and speak to us.
One of the things I have been using when coaching is a great app called 'Edufii' - it's a great way of:
Sending you the notes from the lesson. That way you won't forget what you have done in your lesson
You keeping in touch with me in between sessions so I can monitor your progress
Keep a timeline of your improvement
It's a great tool and FREE when you book any lessons, whether it be a one off lesson or a series of coaching sessions. If you would like more information or a demonstration please get in touch or come and see me.
Beat the course
Playing with a lot of amateur golfers in Pro-Ams or on site, I often see them play the wrong shot at the wrong time causing them to lose shots. This playing lesson is a great way to play with other golfers and myself in a relaxed atmosphere where I can offer guidance and get you playing the right shot at the right time. Here are the upcoming dates:
Thu 7 Jul - 6pm
Sat 16 Jul - 2pm
Mon 25 Jul - 6pm
Thu 4 Aug - 6pm
Short game and wedge education
A specific clinic aimed at improving your short game. The best player on the PGA Tour get up-and-down 67% of the time when missing the green. The 100th player gets up-and-down 58% of the time. If you can get up-and-down just 10% more than you currently do, think how many shots you could save.
Sat 2 Jul - 3pm
Sat 9 Jul - 2pm
Thu 14 Jul - 6pm
Sat 30 Jul - 2pm
